Golden Sands of Jomalig Island

NO RAIN CHECK

Summer is about to end! How about an unforgettable trip to end this season? A trip that is def'y worth it. My boyfriend and I thought of something sensible and helpful activity in a way that both companies will benefit. We invited group of youth mostly residing in Bulacan to join our Outreach program and as a reward, we make sure they will have one of the best time of their lives exploring the enormous beauty of this island called "Jomalig".

Jomalig, pronounced as "Homalig", is the farthest island of Quezon province. An unspoiled island with greatly preserved nature and far from the madding crowd. It is gifted with golden sands girdling the entire island. If you're looking for a place to meditate, you should consider Jomalig Island as one of your choices.

Our team includes: Carl, Clarissa, Gervs, Neliza, Johnrey, Karen, Joe, JV and I.

O52017: DAY 1, ON OUR WAY TO JOMALIG ISLAND.

Travel time from Cubao to Real Quezon was 2-3hours. We've reached the Ungos port at exactly 4:30am and queued for the 7am trip. We struggled on getting slots because of nonsystematic process and absence of First-come-first-served policy plus the very risky way of boarding. However, our group still managed to be positive and we see to it that it's just part of our great adventure here in Quezon province.

Our situation on the upper part of the boat.

Boat ride to Jomalig island took about 4-5 hours, we paid Php800/head for roundtrip boat ride inclusive of rice meals on board. We placed ourselves upstairs where we can lay and rest our body. It was a smooth and very long ride and perfect opportunity to take naps.

Here we come, Jomaliggggg.

Seeing the lovely view of Salibungot port is like watching a paradise moving closer to you. The bluegreenish clear water and those tiny little golden sandstones welcomed us as we touched down. We met Ate Vilma who's in charge of our food, accommodation and island hopping for Php1200/head package. We had another 10mins boat ride from Salibungot beach to Sitio Moros where we will conduct our outreach program. Well, what astounded me the most is the clear water we passed through that you could visibly see the deepest white sea floor like wait, are we sailing on a swimming pool!?

SITIO MOROS

Simple. Plain. Island life.

This food, though!

It's noontime, just in time for lunch. We had sets of Lobsters, huge crabs, fried and soupy fish. I know right! Fresh sea foods are heaven sent. After a round of good meal, we had a quick rest then proceeded to our island hopping activity after changing swimming outfits.

Our first stop was in this rocky islet and not too far from this islet there's a rock formation of sea turtle which is incredibly amazing.

We didn't get the chance to drop by in little boracay Pamana beach due to low tide and went straight to Salibungot beach instead. This one's definitely our favorite stop. We fell in love with its soft sands and very inviting water. A peaceful place that seems to be perfect with a happy bunch of travelers. It's almost dark when they fetched us and headed back to Sitio Moros.

Dinner of Squid adobo and fish with coconut milk sauce are ready when we arrived. While the boys are busy pitching tents, we had a careful planning of our program tomorrow morning and finished the day with snoozing sleep.

Woke up at 6am for quick sand bar tour. We sailed along the coast to reach Banana beach. It was a wavy day but the long sand bar is stunning therefor we couldn't resist to have morning swim.

It's 8am when we got back and there's the kids of Sitio Moros patiently waiting for us. We started our outreach program by distributing school supplies and bags to the teens and kids then gave away clothes to the mothers. Catching their genuine smiles and bringing happiness and joy to their tough lives is indeed a great experience to ponder.

Jomaligin kids.

We had fresh fried fish for breakfast afterwards and need to catch the last trip of boat at 11am. Reached Ungos port at 4pm.

Thanks to these happy bunch for joining us!

Jomalig, a piece of what I can call "home" faraway from our own. The long journey to reach this place is something we must indulged in order to experience a pinch of paradise. Visiting different places with different lifestyle is like letting yourself be part of it, absorbing their civilization, learn from their society and don't forget to contribute something on their small community. It won't cost you too much to be generous and leave something for the people who might be very lucky residing in this beautiful haven but too unfortunate to be far from the urban places. To go on a trip like this is one precious opportunity to meet new friends, discover great places and to give back. This is why, traveling is living actively.

Thank you, heart, for supporting me from the very beginning when I told you I want to organize our own outreach program.

Kill nothing but time; Take nothing but pictures; Leave nothing but footprints ......
or anything that could paint a smile on their faces and help others, maybe?
